William D. “Bill” Whitlock Sr., of Trenton, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on September 23, 2026. Born on June 5, 1930, Bill spent his life deeply rooted in the community he cherished, surrounded by family, faith, and the familiar rhythms of the place he called home.

Bill graduated from Trenton High School in 1947. After graduation, he joined the National Guard, serving ten years, attaining the rank of Mess Sergeant over the cooks. He worked with the Graniteville Dye Plant for five years, before hiring on at Dupont in 1952, where he worked for the next 41 years. During his service at Dupont, Bill (known as “Whit” at work) was presented the Military “Award of Excellence,” for his significant contribution to the Nuclear Weapons Program.

Outside of work, Bill found joy in simple, meaningful routines. He loved spending time with family, camping, and working his land. In the summer, he tended a generous garden and shared its bounty—vegetables, figs, and pears—with neighbors, friends, and anyone in need. In the winter, he cut wood and provided warmth to many throughout the community. His life was marked by a spirit of service, offered without fanfare and always from the heart. Bill was a longtime member of North Augusta First Baptist Church, where his faith remained a guiding presence throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Logan Whitlock; his father, Thomas H. Whitlock; his four brothers and two sisters; and his granddaughter, Rachel Grace Baker.

Bill leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Peggie Whitlock; his son, Dave Whitlock (Janis); and his daughters, Ashley Whitlock, Melody Boylston (Micah), Cassy Robinson (David), former son-in-law and friend, Rick Burns, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one on the way. His loved ones will hold close the stories, laughter, and moments shared with him, carrying forward the lasting place he holds in their hearts.

Visitation will be held on September 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, Inc., 801 Columbia Rd., Edgefield, SC.

Bill will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew him. His presence was a blessing, and his memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his family and friends.
