William T. "Billy" Quarles, 86, husband of the late Betty Timmerman Quarles, passed away January 24, 2024 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Billy was born and raised in Edgefield, SC and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.

He started his career as a welder and chain saw mechanic for Mr. Harvey Holmes and later owned and operated Quarles Chain Saw Shop until 2002. He finished his career with over 20 years doing what he loved. Being outdoors running his bulldozer and dump truck as well as riding his lawnmower and tractor.

You could always find Billy supporting his granddaughters at their many school events and extra-curricular activities as well as having his favorite Pool Room burgers on Saturdays with family and friends. He also loved playing golf with his Saturday morning friends and their twice a year golf trips.

He is survived by his children Jack & Lorie Quarles Taylor of North Augusta and Scott and Beverly Quarles of Edgefield; two granddaughters, Carrie Ann (Mitch) Hanks and Catherine Quarles both of Columbia; a sister Jean M. Walker, Edgefield; sister-in-law Kathryn (Leonard) Lalonde, Edgefield; a nephew, Jeff (Candi) Lalonde, Edgefield; and two nieces Jackie (Johnny) Lyons, Edgefield and Shannon (Tim) Eargle, Aiken.

He is predeceased by his wife and parents, Carlton and Thelma Holmes Quarles, and brother-in-law Allen Timmerman.

It would have given Billy great pleasure if you chose to give in his memory to Antioch Baptist Church 1843 Hwy 23 West Edgefield, SC 29824, or Wardlaw Academy 1296 Columbia Rd. Johnston, SC 29832, as these were near and dear to his heart.

Visitation will be held at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28th from 5pm to 7pm.

Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Monday, January 29th at 3:00pm with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at his daughter's home at 621 Whitewood Way, North Augusta, SC 29860.
