Obituary

Thomas William Long passed away peacefully at his home on January 9, 2026. He was born on September 18, 1949, in Newberry, South Carolina, to Gladys Pardue Long and William David Long of Prince Hill Farm, Saluda, South Carolina.

Tom was a graduate of Saluda High School and Clemson University. While at Clemson, he was a member of the DKA/ATO fraternity and participated in ROTC. Following his graduation in 1971, he was commissioned into the United States Army and served in the Transportation Corps at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

After completing his military service, Thomas married Leisa Edwards Long, and together they made their home in Johnston, South Carolina. He went on to build a successful career in insurance, working as a State Farm agent for 35 years.

Tom was actively involved in his community. He served on the Edgefield County Water Authority and the Mission Council of the Episcopal Church of the Ridge. He was also a member of the Ridge Agricultural Club and a past member of the Sertoma Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Leisa Edwards Long; his daughter, Julie Elizabeth Long; his son, David Forrest Long (Jamie); and his cherished grandchildren, Addison Mae Long, Forrest William Long, and John David Long. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Long Thomas (John).

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Episcopal Church on Tuesday, January 13th, at 2 pm. Memorials can be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ridge Endowment Fund.
