Ronald Lindsay Perry, 80, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, June 8, 2026. He was the beloved husband to Sandra Yarborough Perry for 55 years. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by daughter Lindsay Perry Reed (Dave) and son Eli Aubrey Perry (Cissy). He has three grandchildren: Dax Cameron Reed, Isla Dempsey Reed, and Samuel Holmes Perry. Ron’s joy in life was his family and his faith. His sense of humor and approach to the pleasures of life was reflected in his steady belief that all things would be okay in time – God’s time.
Grieving also are two brothers: Donald Coleman Perry, Ron’s twin from Raleigh, NC; Nelson Arnold (Skip) from Charleston, SC; and one sister, Janet Elizabeth Perry from Irmo, SC; as well as a large and close group of cousins from NC.
Ron was born in Raleigh, NC, but grew up in Greenwood, SC. His parents were the late Commodore Aubrey Perry (Buddy) and Nell Harrell Perry Squires. Ron graduated from Greenwood High School, Lander College, and the University of South Carolina. He actively served in the US Navy and the US Army Reserve Unit from Greenwood, SC. An educator for over 50 years, Ron was a social studies teacher in Darlington County, Sumter County, Richland County, and Aiken County. He served as vice principal of Columbia High School, Principal of Allendale-Fairfax High School, and both teacher and principal of the night school at Midland Valley High School.
After retirement from public school, Ron served as the principal at Lighthouse Care Center in Augusta, GA, for several years before retiring again. His last work experience was at Wardlaw Academy in Edgefield County.
Ron was an avid sportsman who played tennis, coached football, and taught swimming at the Greenwood Country Club growing up. However, his great lifelong passion was golf. At Lander he played on the golf team, and Pine Ridge County Club was his home course. His golf buddies there were like brothers whom he loved. Recently, he had renewed his bridge playing skills there as well with a new group of beloved friends.
Ron’s Celebration of Life will be Sunday, June 14, at 2:00 PM at Edgefield Global Methodist Church, 309 Norris Street Edgefield, SC, with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to his church.
