Michael Ryan Wood, 19, of Wigfall St., Edgefield, SC son of Michael James and Deanna Corell Wood entered into rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Greenville, SC. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Strom Thurmond High School Football Field. Due to COVID-19 social distancing will be observed and facial masks requested. Ryan was born in Aiken, SC., and was of the Baptist Faith. Ryan was a member of the 2017 AA Band Directors Association State Championship squad. He was an All-Region Band member and was chosen for the University of South Carolina Band Clinic. Ryan was a member of the State Champion Mock Trial team in 2017, 2019, and 2020. The 2019 team finished 5th in the nation. Ryan was an accomplished actor and singer, playing the lead roles in school productions of Murder's in the Heir, Big Fish, Aladdin, and Shrek. Ryan was a member of the Strom Thurmond High School Beta Club, he was a co-founder of the service club Les Amis. Ryan twice was named a James Otis Scholar, attended Palmetto Boys State in 2019, and twice attended the Furman University Top Mock camp. Ryan was a proud member of the Furman University Class of 2024 and a member of the school's Mock Trial team. He was also excited about becoming a Beta Theta Pi brother. Ryan was beloved by all who knew his easy smile and quick wit. Ryan leaves behind his ferret, Sookie, and his weenie dog, Frankie. Ryan was fierce protector of his sister and a loyal friend to those he loved. Survivors include his parents, one sister, Corinne "Cory" Wood; his maternal grandparents, Melanie Moore Corell and the late Ralph Corell, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Rosemary Bridgett Wood, and the late Dennis Wood; his maternal great grandmothers, Esther Williams, and Angeline Little; and his loving aunts, and uncles, George & Mia Handberry, Creig Corell, Pat & Kristin Wood, and Steve & Amy Wood; and cousins, Cordie & Leighton Handberry, Kaitlyn & Connor Wood, and Isabel & Logan Wood. Family and friends may pay their respects to Ryan on Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Wednesday before the funeral from 9 to 11 AM at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, 801 Columbia Rd., Edgefield, SC 29824.
