Larry Ensley Cope of Edgefield, South Carolina passed away on 15 June 2026, at the age of 88. Visitation will be held 5PM-7PM, Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, 801 Columbia Rd, Edgefield, SC. Services will be 4PM, Thursday, 18 June 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Trenton followed by burial in the church cemetery.

 Larry was born in Sylva, North Carolina on 10 May 1938 to Homer Cope and Lucy Ensley Cope. He graduated from Sylva High School and University of Georgia.

 Larry is survived by his wife of 39 years Verma Louise Holmes, daughter Laura Freeze, daughter Kay Swann (Bryan), son Lee Cope (Kristina), grandchildren Michael Griffin (Jazmine), Allie and Jake Swann, Bryce Cope, Brooke Walworth (Jonathan), great-grandchildren Jade, Mateo and Mason Griffin. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Patsy Blanton of Renton WA. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Trenton for 39 years.

 Larry loved the outdoors and worked in the U.S. Forest Service from 1961 to 1994. His work led him to live in Oregan, Beuna Vista VA, Staunton VA, Clayton GA, Blue Ridge GA, Edgefield SC, and Newberry SC. He loved to trap as a boy and continued trapping through his career and into retirement. He was an outdoorsman who liked to fish, chop wood and work hard. He was a loving husband and a father with a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
