Obituary

Kenneth Gordon May, affectionately known as “Tadpole” in his younger years and “Cowboy” in his later ones, passed away at home at 10:43 a.m. on February 16, 2026, at the age of 65. Born in Maryland, Kenneth lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, humor, and deep love for others. Kenneth was married to the love of his life, Wanda May, whose devotion and partnership meant more to him than words could ever express. Together they built a life grounded in faith, commitment, and unwavering affection.

He was a proud father to Elizabeth Singleton McNair (husband Patrick McNair), Brian May, Jonathon Adams (stepson), and William Adams (stepson)(wife Kayla.) He was a joyful and devoted grandfather to Kiersten Singleton, Jaxon Singleton, Kayden Adams, and Violet Pridemore, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Ruth May, and is survived by his brothers David May and Larry May, as well as his beloved nieces Stephanie May, Kaitlin May, and Brittney May.

A man of many talents, Kenneth was most proud of his gift for drumming. Over the years, he played the drum set for numerous church bands, using music as a form of worship and service. He retired from a career in trucking and spent much of his life loving the open road. Kenneth had a deep love for motorcycles, especially his Goldwing, and for many years riding was one of his greatest joys. When the time came that he could no longer safely hold the bike up, he stepped away from riding with grace—yet never from the fellowship it brought him. He remained an active and devoted member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, continuing to travel, serve, and share in community with fellow believers, often accompanying rides in a car in recent years.

Outside of music and CMA fellowship, he loved camping, boating, fixing up cars, and just about anything that needed attention. He had a joke for every situation, and his humor—often perfectly timed—was one of the many ways he brought light into the lives of those around him. Kenneth was the epitome of a true Christian. He accepted people exactly as they were, loved without condition, and did his best to live as Jesus taught. He was kind, gentle, and deeply loving and always doing the best he could with what he had and always willing to make amends when he fell short. Above all, he was always just one phone call away, ready to drop everything to help someone else and make their life a little easier and more joyful.

There will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at his home for family and friends to gather, share memories, and honor the life he lived. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made directly to his wife, Wanda May, whom he loved beyond measure and who will need the support of family and friends during this time. Kenneth Gordon May leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, laughter, and unwavering love. His rhythm lives on—in the beat of a drum, the shared miles with friends, and the countless hearts he touched along the way.
