Obituary

Kathryn Ann Timmerman Lalonde, Kat, departed this life on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She was born in Edgefield in April of 1946 and, except for a few years living in Aiken, she was a proud resident of Edgefield her entire life.

She loved children and operated an in-home day care when her own children were young. In 1975, she met the love of her life, Leonard Lalonde, and they were married in 1977. They had many adventures together including flying in the plane that Leonard owned and piloted, being part of a square-dancing group, and taking trips together, including many visits to Texas and New Hampshire for family visits, and vacations to Hawaii, Alaska, and several countries in Europe.

Kat spent most of her life caring for others. After she moved to Aiken, she worked briefly at The Sunshine House taking care of babies in the infant room, but she eventually started her in-home day care again when some parents asked her if she would take care of their babies exclusively, She did this work until her parents and sister became ill and she devoted her time to taking care of them.

When the grandchildren were born, she became their MawMaw and she was devoted to them. She kept the ones who lived here when they were young and even as they all became school aged. As they grew and became involved in activities, she and Leonard were present for as many baseball, soccer, softball, and volleyball games as they could and attended many plays, performance, and Special Olympics events as well. She was not only deeply loved by her grandchildren, but many of the friends of her grandchildren, who affectionately called her MawMaw too. As the great-grandchildren started activities, she and Leonard were present for as many of those as they were able. Family was the most important thing to Kat.

In addition to her husband, survivors include four children: Jeff Lalonde (Candi) of Edgefield; Shannon Eargle (Tim) of Aiken, Karen Lalonde (Ed) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Lenny Lalonde of Augusta, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Brandon Herndon (Gina), Nick Herndon (Adrianne), Tanner Eargle (Lindsey), Dustin Lalonde (Mikayla), Dalton Lalonde (Alyssa), Skylar Levi (Corey), and Peyton Lalonde; six great-grandchildren: Macy Herndon, Sawyer Levi, Jayde Lalonde, Miles Herndon, Ryker Levi, Eli Walker, and Bronwyn Herndon. She was predeceased by a brother Allen Timmerman, a sister Betty Quarles, and brother-in-law Billy Quarles.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday November 29, 2024 at Sunset Gardens Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home on Orchard Circle Edgefield, SC.
