Joseph Michael "Mike" Saye, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12 at the age of 80. He was born July 13, 1945, in Columbia, South Carolina and lived in Johnston throughout his life.
Mike was a man of quiet strength and deep character. He owned Carolina Machine Engines where he was respected for his work ethic and dedication. He enjoyed drag racing and won two NHRA world championships.
He shared a deep and enduring bond with his wife, Gail, marked by love, partnership, and mutual devotion. As a father to Michelle and Keely, Mike was steadfast, protective, and endlessly supportive. He adored his daughters and was immensely proud of them, never missing an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife Gail Saye, children Michelle (Wes) Ingram and Keely Saye, grandchildren Walker, Chandler and Kinley Ingram, sister Wanda Brunson, brother Tim Saye, and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his mother Jeanette Berry, sister Jane Saye, father W.E. "Joe" Saye, and Stepmother Trudy Saye.
Services will be held graveside at Sunset Gardens Memorial Cemetery, Johnston S.C. on Thursday, January 15 at 2:00 pm, visitation with the family to follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of Mike's memory.
