John Darrell Ellis, 78, of Maple St., Edgefield, SC. husband of Sandra Whatley Ellis entered into rest on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Graveside Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield, SC. Due to COVID-19 social distancing will be observed and facial masks requested. Mr. Ellis was born in Williamston, SC and was the son of the late James Hamilton and Ideal Turner Ellis. He was retired from SCE&G, S.C. National Guard, and a member Edgefield First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Edgefield High School, class of 1960, on the Edgefield Town Council for 35 years where he served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2001-2012. John also was past master of Concordia Lodge #50, and a retired member of the Edgefield Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, one son, Darrell (Cara) Ellis; one daughter, Gena (Stacy) Brown; three grandchildren, Porter, Nolan, and Julianna Brown; two sisters, Sheryl (Glenn) Turner, Brenda (Charles) Doolittle; two brothers, Roger (Annie Mae) Ellis, and Mike (Cindy) Ellis; a beloved brother-in-law, Luke Barefoot; a special sister, Shirley Phillips.
