Jerry Leon Gambrell, Sr., a devoted family man, respected community member, and loyal friend, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Edgefield, South Carolina, at the age of 86. Born on August 30, 1939, in Donalds, SC, Jerry’s life was marked by integrity, service, and dedication to those he loved.

 Jerry was the beloved husband of the late Cathy Bledsoe Gambrell, with whom he shared a life built on mutual respect, support, and companionship. His family was the center of his world. Jerry is survived by his son, Joey Gambrell and his wife Melanie, and his granddaughter, Meg Gambrell, whose achievements and milestones brought him great pride and happiness. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister, Brenda Wilson and her husband Roscoe.

 Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Leon Gambrell, Jr., his mother, Sarah "Doll" Shirley Gambrell, and his father, Marvin Gambrell. The impact they had on his life remained with him always, serving as guiding stars in his journey.

 Throughout his career, Jerry served as a State Trooper First Class with the South Carolina Highway Patrol throughout the years of 1966-1989, dedicating many years to protecting and serving his community with honor and distinction. His sense of duty and unwavering commitment were apparent to all who worked alongside him, and he retired after a long and commendable career. Jerry also served his country as a veteran of the South Carolina National Guard. That spirit of service extended to his faith as a proud member of New Market Baptist Church in Greenwood, where his presence, kindness, and generosity touched many lives.

 Friends, loved ones, and colleagues are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Jerry’s legacy at a graveside service on July 28, 2026, at Oakbrook Memorial Park, located at 3007 US-25 in Hodges, SC. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

 Jerry Leon Gambrell, Sr. will be remembered for his strength of character, deep compassion, and the lasting bonds he forged over a lifetime of caring for others. His legacy endures in the hearts of his family and to those who knew him.
