James Allen Williams, a dedicated retired pipeline welder and welding inspector, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Augusta, Ga. Born on April 25, 1947, in Aiken, South Carolina, James lived a life marked by hard work, commitment, and devotion to his family and community.
James’s career was distinguished by his skill and meticulous attention to detail, which he applied throughout his years as a pipeline welder and later as a welding inspector. His professional contributions not only ensured the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure but also earned him the respect of colleagues and peers in his field.
As a beloved husband to Patricia G. Williams, James was also a pillar of strength and guidance to his sons, James Donald Williams and Kennith Wayne Williams, who along with their wives Jan and Susan, survive him. His sisters, Fay Thomas and Cherry Williams, also cherish his memory. James’s legacy extends warmly into the lives of his grandchildren—Brandi Williams, Jamie Williams, and Garrett Williams—and is embraced by his great-grandchildren, Harper, River, and Kinley.
Though he is survived by many loving family members, James is remembered by the earlier loss of his grandson Kennith Evan Williams. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Whitlock, and his father, Jimmy Whitlock.
Family and friends will gather to honor James’s life and memory on April 3, 2026, with a visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, located at 801 Columbia Rd, Edgefield, SC 29824. This will be a time for those who loved him to reflect on his contributions and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
