Homer Williams
AIKEN, S.C. – Homer P. Williams, Jr., 92, of Aiken, SC, passed away on June 30, 2022, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA., with his family by his side. Homer is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Adel, and three children: Mark Williams (Maria), Marlys T. Wooten, Andrew Tharp (Robin). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Steven Williams, Tyler Tharp, Amanda Williams, and Daniel Wooten (Collins); two great granddaughters: Sullivan Wooten and Everleigh Thompson; his sister, Dorcille Little; and a niece, Kathy Fortune (Fred). He was predeceased by his parents Eloise Paris and Homer P. Williams, Sr.; his first wife, Barbara Belanger; his son-in-law, Steven Wooten; and his brother-in-law, Ken Little.
Homer Williams was born on November 29, 1929, in Miami, Florida. He graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 1947. He served three years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War where he met his first wife, and they were married in 1956. They had one son, Mark. His first wife died in 1965. He married Adel in 1967 and became the father to Marlys and Andrew.
Homer worked for Florida Power and Light Company for 42 years starting in the mailroom and retiring as the Comptroller and Chief Accounting Officer in 1989.
Homer was first and foremost a family man. He supported his sons' interest in baseball and primarily all three children's years of competitive sailing in the International Optimist Dinghy. He was an avid football fan supporting his alma mater, the University of Miami Hurricanes, and the Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed taking his family to games on the weekends.
Homer loved to travel particularly on cruise ships. He and Adel took cruises all over the world. He also enjoyed hiking, downhill skiing, biking, bowling, and bridge. He attended Edgefield United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pine Ridge Club in Edgefield.
There will be a visitation on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home at 801 Columbia Road, Edgefield, SC. Interment will be at a later date.
