Hazel Quarles Thomas, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Greenwood, South Carolina. Born on May 23, 1935, in Edgefield, South Carolina, Hazel lived a life marked by dedication to her family and community.

Throughout her life, Hazel was known for her unwavering commitment to hard work as a retired textile worker and the values she cherished. Her career as a textile worker exemplified her strength and resilience, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and friends alike. Later in life Hazel worked at Hardees and the Edgefield Pool Room. 

Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Frank Thomas; her parents, Hugh Alonzo Quarles and Lillie Mae Harris Quarles; and ten siblings who predeceased her. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Yvonne Price, and her husband, Danny; her son, Jeffrey "Jeff " Thomas, and his wife, Christie; and her sister, Ruth Wates. Hazel’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Clay Price and his wife Caroline, Chris Price, Ashley Thomas, and Michelle Thomas; as well as her great-grandchildren, Bristol Price and Anniston Price.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Caris Healthcare and NHC in Greenwood for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Hazel during her final days.

A visitation will be held on April 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, Inc., located at 801 Columbia Road, Edgefield, South Carolina. The funeral service will follow on April 3, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at Red Hill Baptist Church, 598 Red Hill Road, Edgefield, South Carolina. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. 

Hazel Quarles Thomas will be remembered for her steadfast spirit and the loving bonds she nurtured with her family. Her memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a profound legacy of love and dedication that will endure in the hearts of her family and community.
