Obituary

Mr. Harry Graham Reynolds, 91 husband of Grace Ryan Reynolds, died Sunday September 24, 2017. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday September 27, 2017, at 1 PM at Johnston Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. A private burial will be at a later time. Mr. Harry Graham Reynolds was born October 28, 1925, son of Edward Hays and Rebekah Graham Reynolds in Greenwood SC. Survived by his wife, Grace Ryan Reynolds and daughters Dencie (Jef) Lambdin of Lumberton, NC, Frances Reynolds (Ken) Fallaw of Aiken, SC and sons Leland (Kathy) Reynolds and Jeffrey (Becky) Reynolds also of Aiken. Twelve grandchildren include Richmond and Alexander Page; Rebekah Robinson, Denning Saum, Mary Helen Simons, Ryan, Chad, and Anna Reynolds, Lindsay Sartorio, Graham, Hank and Bess Reynolds, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He enlisted in the US Army Infantry. After basic training, he was deployed to Germany as a Sergeant, wounded in Attendon, Germany on April 30, 1945, and received the Purple Heart. He spent 6 weeks in the US Army Hospital in Paris. At the end of the war during the occupation of Germany, he was transferred to Berlin in the US Quartermaster Depot Company. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant at the age of 18 and had oversight of all food, alcohol and cigarettes in Berlin District and the embassies of Europe. He was discharged on July 2, 1946. Mr. Reynolds graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering. While at Clemson he was the Editor of The Tiger, the college newspaper, a member of the Tiger Brotherhood and Sr. Council. Upon completion of college, he began H. G. Reynolds Construction Company in Trenton, with a focus on general construction as an institutional builder of state and government facilities which included schools, hospitals, and prisons, He retired in 1986 transferring the company to his sons. Three of his grandsons now are the current owners. In October 1956, he opened Diversified industries, a plastics manufacturing company in Trenton. This was during the advent of the hoola hoops and for six weeks the plant worked around the clock with the exception of Sundays to run plastic hoops. The tubing machinery sprayback of intermingled colors turned into a bonanza as Reynolds sold the pieces as driftwood from the moon or "Moondrift" and containers called "Flora Lava". Mr. Reynolds was an early organizer of the Edgefield County Hospital and the first chairman of the hospital board. He served as the first president of the Trenton Community Development Corp. and was the Edgefield County chairman for the South Carolina Tricentennial Committee in 1970. He hosted then Vice President Spiro Agnew and Senator Strom Thurmond at the celebratory event. Upon his retirement, he built and owned a hotel in Quito, Equador, traveled with his wife to 6 continents, and logged 2 million airline miles. He was an avid fixed wing and helicopter pilot. He was a life-long elder in the Presbyterian Churches of Trenton, Edgefield, and Johnston. He and his wife have supported missionaries worldwide.
