Obituary

Harold Kenneth Morgan peacefully departed this life on September 3, 2025, entering into his eternal home to join his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on August 10, 1930, at Aiken County Hospital to Lafayette Foster Morgan and Bertha Parkman Morgan, Kenneth was a vibrant soul whose outgoing spirit and unwavering faith illuminated every aspect of his life.

He graduated from North Augusta High School and pursued further education at the American Institute of Banking in Augusta, GA, followed by the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

After high school, Kenneth brought his spirited presence to the Automotive Department at Claussen's Bakery in Augusta, GA. On March 6, 1949, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Wood Morgan, and together they built a life in Beech Island before settling in Edgefield County on what is now Morgan Drive near Modoc, SC. Kenneth's outgoing nature led him to Timmerman Motors in Edgefield, then to The Security Bank, where he rose from teller to president during a distinguished 35-year career. After retiring, he founded Morgan Realty, continuing to share his warmth and wisdom in the real estate field.

A pillar of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kenneth's deep faith guided him as he served as Senior Adult Sunday School teacher for 61 years. His leadership shone through roles as deacon, chairman of the Deacon Board, and chairman of the Building Committee for the Fellowship Hall. On July 22, 2012, he was honored as Associate Pastor Emeritus, and he also served as moderator for the Edgefield Baptist Association. From 1960 to 1970, he served on the Edgefield County School Board, where his leadership helped bring Strom Thurmond High School into being—a lasting legacy marked by his motion to name the school in honor of Senator Thurmond.

Kenneth loved sharing the beauty of Edgefield County with others and often ended his drives by pointing friends toward his beloved Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, inviting them to join him in worship—a true reflection of his faith-filled heart.

Above all, Kenneth's life was a profound expression of love for his family, whom he cherished deeply. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Johnny Murrell; his son-in-law, Jerry Murrell; and 11 grandchildren: Tami Sickels (Jim), Roxie Berry (Chris), Brian Murrell (Tammy), Mary Willis (Jason), Rebecca Dantzler (Jeffery), Joni Richardson (Drew), Sylvia Byrd (John), Tolbert Murrell (Beth), Miriam Covar (Ben), Alex Murrell (Katie), and Patrick Murrell (Jennifer). He is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Morgan; his parents; his daughter, Delaine Murrell; his sister, Martha Rich; and his great-grandson, Dylan Smith.

The family will receive guests at a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, 801 Columbia Road, Edgefield, SC. A celebration of his life, reflecting his joyful spirit, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, 174 Red Oak Grove Road, Modoc, SC.
