Born in Greenwood and a son of Heyward Edsel Thomas and Sylvia Penn Thomas-Holmes, he was the loving husband of Rhonda Thomas and amazing father to Brandon Thomas. He graduated from Strom Thurmond High School in 1989 where he was a member of the Thurmond FFA and Star Staye Farmer for SC his senior year. He was a former member of the Edgefield Young Farmers and a member of SC Farm Bureau as well as the Palmetto Tractor Club.

Gregg grew up with farming in his blood. His love of tractors and farming led him to become the owner of Thomas Farms in Johnston, that he operated with his brother. Being a row crop farmer and mechanic brought many people to his shop door who ended up not just being customers but lifelong friends. He touched the lives of so many; from the young to the old.

The love he had for the land was only surpassed by his family, friends and the Lord. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

Gregg is survived by his wife Rhonda, a son Brandon, parents Heyward Edsel Thomas and Sylvia Penn Thomas-Holmes, a brother Kelly Thomas and nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Faust, Garner Porter, Travis Hatcher, Christopher Derrick, Jerry Jackson, Jay Crouch, Chris Rodgers, Roman Whitfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Jimmy Holmes, Joe Alvin Derrick, Larry Satcher, Larry Satcher, Jr., James Skip Yonce, Calvin Derrick, Eddie Harley, Jack Jones, Buck Dublin, Wilber Holmes.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1186 Mt. Calvary Rd, Johnston, SC. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
