Doris Wardlaw Cantelou was born June 12, 1924 in Greenville, SC, to the late Walter and Annie Wilson Cantelou. Doris was a teacher of elementary age children. She loved to draw, paint, and write poetry and short stories. She grew up and lived in Edgefield, South Carolina, moving to Orange Park with her mother in the 1970's.
Doris loved her family, and she loved children. She had small art classes for children, tutored after school, and babysat her nieces and nephews. She sponsored several children through World Vision. She always maintained her childlike sense of fun. She spoke often of the family members that had passed on before her, especially her sister Catherine Lanham, and her parents. We like to think that now she is sitting with them in rocking chairs, drinking a hot cup of coffee, and enjoying a long chat.
Doris passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by her 3 nephews, John (Mary) Lanham, Robert (Frances) Lanham, and James (Denise) Lanham; their children and grandchildren; and many friends.
The family would like to thank the folks at Signature Health Care of Orange Park for their care, and also Community Hospice who helped us during this difficult time. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
Joy of God
I blow my horn of freedom;
Today's my Jubilee!
Jesus came in love
And truly set me free.
He placed me in His Kingdom
On eagle wings of love,
So this Earthly cross I'll carry
Till I'm home in Heaven above.
