Charles Fredrick (Freddy) Stribling, 85, passed away on January 24, 2026.
Freddy was born in Drew, Mississippi on December 17, 1940. He was the son of Geneva Wilson Stribling and Tom Weston Stribling. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers: Thomas Wesley Stribling, Bobby Joe Stribling, Boyd Lee Stribling and John Douglas Stribling.
Freddy lived in Johnston most of his life. A graduate of Johnston High School, he was very proud to be a member of the 1957 and 1959 SC State Champion football teams. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He worked in the grocery business for many years as well as WJES. Freddy was a huge sports enthusiast as a lifelong Ole Miss fan as well as being a devoted Clemson Tiger fan. On any given day he could be spotted in orange and on most days at the Pool Hall enjoying laughter and catching up with friends.
A Johnston First Baptist Church member as well as 45-year member of American Legion Post 154. He is survived by his sister, Jane Stribling Cox of Chapin, SC as well as a number of nieces and nephews that were very special to him and were there to assist with his care toward the end of his life.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Gardens Memorial Cemetery in Johnston, SC by Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 4:00pm. Freddy’s family will receive visitors immediately afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
