Anne Rauton Smith, 87, a cherished artist and dedicated member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Johnston, South Carolina. Born on October 3, 1938, as the daughter of the late Lucy Mithchell Rauton and Clarence P. Rauton, Sr., Anne lived a life filled with creativity and passion, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Known for her remarkable talent, Anne built a studio in her backyard where she devoted countless hours to her artwork and nurturing her beloved garden. Her artistic journey saw her study at several institutions, including Anderson College, the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, and various local guilds and societies such as the Aiken Artist Guild and the South Carolina Watercolor Society. Anne's work not only demonstrated her artistic vision but also her love for the beauty of nature, themes that often found their way into her paintings.

Professionally, Anne used her secretarial science degree to serve as an administrative specialist, contributing her skills to the S.C. Forestry Commission and later retiring from Taylor Tree Nursery. Her dedication to her work was complemented by her commitment to the arts as she often balanced her career with her passion for painting.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sisters, Charlene R. Jackson (Billy) and Jane R. Rogers (Danny), along with her brother, Thomas M. Rauton, Sr. (Allison), and numerous nieces and nephews who admired her nurturing spirit and creative flair. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde M. Smith, whose memory she held dear.

A Funeral Service celebrating Anne's life will be held on February 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Johnston Methodist Church, located at 471 Lee Street, Johnston, SC 29832. This gathering will provide family and friends an opportunity to honor her legacy and the impact she made throughout her life. As we remember Anne, we celebrate her artistic contributions, her dedication to family, and the joy she brought to those around her.
