Alvin was born in Edgefield, SC as the son of the late Mattie Ruth Ranson Bryan and Cecil "Jake" Bryan. Alvin was a retired Director of Aiken County Public Works & Engineering. He attended Clemson University and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. He loved his family, Clemson Tigers, and was a dear friend to many.

Alvin is survived by his beloved wife Peggy, one son Dr. Alvin B. Bryan, Jr. (Cindy), one daughter Angie B. Pace (Eddie), seven grandchildren Jake Bryan (Tiphenie), Allison Walthall (Thomas), Dr. Ashley Bryan McDill (Ryan), Anne Marie Bryan, Brittany Doughty (Chris), Kristen Lardizabal (Christian), Courtney Pace, thirteen great grandchildren and one sister Ginny Gilchrist. Alvin is predeceased by his brothers and sisters William P. Bryan, Bob Bryan, Cecil Bryan, Catherine Bryan, Sara Greene.
